Understanding the score calculation

If, like me, calculating your score is a headache, this will interest you. Here we try to explain the calculation of your score card and the different terms

SSS

Its value corresponds to the difficulty of a course for a "scratch" player (fictitious "model" player making an average par on each hole, i.e. 0 above par)

Slope

It is a unit of measurement for courses (calculated based on many parameters) that allows us to quantify their difficulty . The higher the slope, the more difficult the course. The average value is 113.

HCP

Hole ranking by difficulty level : 1 = most difficult - 18 = easiest

Playing Handicap:

Strokes given = number of strokes, above PAR, that the player benefits from to “play at his level”.

Calculating the hits given

Your previous index x ( slope / 113 ) + ( sss – par )

In the example here: 11.4 (128/113) + (71.2 – 72) = 12.11 reduced to 12.

The strokes returned are distributed in order of difficulty of the holes.

In the example, 12 shots returned on the 12 most difficult holes

Stableford brut

PAR is the only reference . No consideration of the index and/or strokes given.

  • The albatross = 5,
  • the eagle = 4,
  • birdie = 3,
  • PAR = 2,
  • bogey = 1,
  • all the "rest" = 0.

The higher the score, the better.

The score of 36 = PAR of the course

Stableford net

  • If the hole score = PAR + strokes given => 2 pts,
  • if 1 better => 3 pts,
  • if 2 better => 4 pts, …,
  • if 1 more => 1 pt,
  • if 2 more or worse => 0 pt.

The higher the score, the better.

The score of 36 corresponds to the player's index.

Above 36, the player has performed

Below 36, the player has underperformed
